Movie costumes from The Kids Are All Right...

In the Indie comedy drama The Kids Are All Right, the teenage children of a lesbian couple, played by Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, decide to get in contact with their sperm donor father, played by Mark Ruffalo.

Here are some of the original costumes featured in the sweet, funny and moving movie at the ArcLight Hollywood, including outfits worn by Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Yaya DaCosta on display in the cinema foyer on July 12, 2010 and later moved upstairs for cinema goers to enjoy.

The grey outfit of the left was worn by Annette Bening as 'Nic' and the clothes on the right by Julianne Moore as 'Jules', who play the same-sex partners and mothers of the children in the movie.

The outfit on the right was worn by Mark Ruffalo as 'Paul', the kids biological father by artificial insemination, when he his working in his co-op vegetable garden at the beginning of the movie. The costume of the left was worn by Yaya DaCosta as 'Tanya', his restaurant employee and occasional lover.

Another set of costumes form the movie could be seen on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks and this exhibit featured costumes worn by Josh Hutcherson as the fifteen year old son, 'Laser', and by Mia Wasikowska as eighteen year old 'Joni'.

These fabulous original 1970's era costumes were worn by Sean Penn, James Franco and Emile Hirsch in Gus Van Sant's extraordinary 2008 biopic of the life and assassination of gay activist and San Francisco Supervisor 'Harvey Milk'.

Milk received eight nominations at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in 2009, including one for Danny Glicker for Best Achievement in Costume Design (whose work can also be seen in Up in the Air, Thank You For Smoking and Transamerica).

Unfortunately he didn't win, but Dustin Lance Black won the Oscar for Best Writing: Screenplay written directly for the Screen and Sean Penn was awarded the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his amazing portrayal of 'Harvey Milk'.

The costume above is worn by Sean Penn during the Gay Freedom Pride Parade in San Francisco, where Harvey Milk took to the stage, to spread his message of equality and hope, even after receiving numerous death threats.

His t-shirt proudly affirms that "I'll never go back (in the closet)".

Beneath the costume is an array of campaign support literature props for Harvey Milk to become the first openly gay candidate for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

These are the red jacket and denim jeans worn by James Franco as 'Scott Smith', Harvey's ex-lover, at his memorial service.

To the left of the costume you can also see a 'soap box' and 'We are very open' sign prop used in the movie.

Also part of the costume exhibit were the clothes worn by Emile Hirsch as young gay activist 'Cleve Jones'. This particular outfit was used in a discussion scene with Harvey.
